Five Minutes With: Folk Rock Musician Ben Stopfel

Ben Stopfel is a Winnipeg-based musician whose work is rooted in emotional honesty, melodic restraint, and a deep respect for songcraft. Known for his quietly compelling presence, Stopfel writes songs that sit comfortably between folk, indie rock, and alternative, guided by thoughtful lyricism and a voice that favours sincerity over spectacle. His music reflects a prairie sensibility — spacious, reflective, and grounded — drawing listeners in through subtle detail rather than grand gesture.

A fixture in Winnipeg’s close-knit music community, Stopfel has built a reputation as both a dedicated songwriter and a collaborative artist. Whether performing solo or alongside fellow musicians, his work emphasizes connection: between lyrics and listener, melody and meaning. His songs often explore themes of memory, distance, and personal reckoning, offering narratives that feel intimate without being insular.
