Five Minutes With: Pop Musician Flora Luna

Flora Luna (alias Geneviève Freynet) is an award-winning artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, offering lush alternative pop in English and French. Winner of the Réseau des grands espaces/Festival Les oreilles en pointe (France) award, she launched her international career to acclaim in 2024. Nominated for three Trille Or prizes in 2025 and one Winnipeg Nightlife & Lifestyle Award in 2026, she is establishing herself as a rising voice in the Canadian music scene. A semi-finalist at the Festival international de la chanson de Granby and winner of Chant’Ouest in 2022, she has performed at major festivals, including the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, KDAYS Festival, Cathedral Village Arts Festival, and Festival du Voyageur (opening for Jill Barber).

Among the highlights of her 2024 and 2025 tours are two series of performances with Home Routes — one of twelve and the other of fifteen concerts — as well as a tour in Ontario and Quebec. Building on the momentum of her 2024 debut EP, Flora Luna will release her first full-length album in 2026, Symphonie nocturne, marking a significant artistic turning point. Echoing the artistry of Feist, Norah Jones and Klô Pelgag, Flora Luna draws listeners in with her gracefully powerful and expressive vocals, heartfelt vulnerability, and cinematic sound, moving fluidly between emotional turbulence and luminous calm.

EP or LP?

My LP, Symphonie nocturne, is set to be released in the fall of 2026.

Symphonie nocturne is an album inhabited by the night – that intimate space where emotions intensify, where memories, desires, and existential questions find their voice. Between vivid pulses, spellbinding atmospheres, and moments of profound vulnerability, the album explores the connections that shape us: passionate or quiet love, friendships that endure through time, lineage, and our relationship to nature and the universe.

Early bird or night owl?

Definitely night owl. As soon as the sun sets, I get a second wind and then inspiration usually comes to me in the middle of the night when I’m alone with my thoughts and the moon.

Road or studio?

I absolutely love doing both. When I’m on the road, I love connecting with people through music, seeing new places, and the adventures that come with it…and I also love being in a creative bubble in the studio with my team and forgetting about the outside world.

Rapid Fire Local Questions:

What is your favourite local restaurant?

Yafa Café (tasty home-cooked Palestinian food)

What is your favourite street in your city and why?

Sherbrooke Street in Wolseley because it’s a nice walkable/bikeable corridor in Winnipeg with great local restaurants, bars and music venues, and heritage sites.

What is your favourite park in your city and why?

Parc Lagimodière-Gaboury in Saint-Boniface, because it’s by the Seine River, has a lot of forest, and you feel like you’re out in the country. There’s a lot of space to be alone with nature, which reminds me of my childhood (I grew up in a small town called Sainte-Geneviève in Manitoba, where I was surrounded by forest and the prairies).

What is your favourite music venue in your city?

Times Changed High and Lonesome Club (a honky tonk gem in Winnipeg)

What is your favourite music store in your city?

Into the Music because they host live shows, they have a great selection of vinyls and cassettes (great selection of local artists as well) with listening booths (which reminds me of the good old days when I purchased my music in CD stores with listening booths). It’s easy to get lost in there for hours.
