“A Day in the Life” with: Visual Artist James Niedermayer

James Niedermayer was born and raised just out of Pine Falls, Manitoba, in god’s country, and enjoys spending time in the wilderness growing and harvesting wild rice in the boreal forest.

In 2009, he pursued his dream and self-taught the art of chainsaw sculpting, learning the anatomy of animals and the passion of bringing them to life using a saw as my brush and wood as my canvas.

During the past few years, he has earned a growing profile in the chainsaw carving community. His work is scattered across most provinces, either from competing or being hired to create a work of art out of a tree stump in someone’s yard or city parks.

Giving new meaning and a life beyond to a resource that would otherwise be thrown away.
