“A Day in the Life” with: Visual Artist Margie L

I have watched Margie’s journey as an artist unfold naturally over the years, guided by passion, dedication and a deep love for painting. Art has always been part of her life, something she returned to again and again, eventually becoming the main focus of her creative outlet. Being self-taught, she developed her skills through experimentation, allowing her style to emerge organically and in its own time.

Margie works primarily with acrylics and often in tiny formats, which somehow makes her work feel even more personal. There is patience in her process and a softness in her approach. She does not rush her ideas. No matter the size, her work invites the viewer to slow down and linger. Nature has a large influence on her work, especially in the form of landscapes. Not all her paintings are meant to be photorealistic; she also loves to have fun by incorporating cryptids and spaceships into her works.

Now collected internationally, Margie’s paintings reflect years of devotion to her craft and a genuine love for creating work that feels both intimate and atmospheric.

Which ’hood are you in?

I’m from Transcona, it’s where I grew up and where I still feel most at home.

What do you do?

My day job is working at a local, family-run engraving business called CM Engrave. I work alongside a close friend from high school, which makes it even more fun! I really enjoy the work, and one of the perks is being able to sublimate my artwork onto different materials, like coasters or metal, for personal projects.

What are you currently working on?

Since it’s winter, I’ve been trying to get outside and enjoy it whenever it’s not freezing. Recently, a friend and I went skating at The Forks, and I found myself really inspired by the warming huts along the river trail. I just finished painting a tiny Huttie, which is my favourite one to see every year.

Where can we find your work?

My work is available on my website and on Etsy. I also have a small selection of paintings at Warehouse Artworks Gallery in the Exchange District.
